Intro to Improv – No Experience Required

Join us for six weeks while we take you through exercises and games that will lay down a solid framework for performing improv. Students learn improv terminology, best practices, teamwork and the elements of performing scenes and playing games. Class is a mix of students interested in getting on stage as well as folks who want to learn better improv skills.

Whether you are trying to become an improv performer, looking for a way to gain confidence at work, or just want to meet some people and try a new hobby, this class is for you. No Experience Required!

Long Form Musical Improv

Whether you're an experienced musical improviser or new to long-form musical improv, this class is designed for anyone looking to enhance their skills in spontaneous musical creation!

Over six weeks, you'll grasp essential song structures for improvising musicals supported by dynamic group exercises, vocal training, and movement. Whether the thought thrills or intimidates you, our goal is to make learning enjoyable and boost your confidence in singing both onstage and off, all while collaboratively crafting uproarious musical shows.

No prior singing experience required! Get ready to  play with your vocals, dance like nobody's watching, and weave together a hilarious full musical show, all with a supportive group of like minded folks by your side.

Focusing on the art of sustaining two-person scenes, this course is perfect for individuals looking to expand their creativity and spontaneity on stage.

Through hands-on exercises and personalized feedback, you’ll focus on discovering and exploring relationships through emotions and point of view. Our experienced instructors will help you navigate the complexities of dynamic interactions, ensuring your scenes are more engaging and able to continue. Welcome to Level 3: Teams & Forms, where the excitement of Duo Scenes expands into the realm of group scenes and teamwork! In this class, participants will delve into the essential mindsets and techniques required to thrive in the world of long form improv shows. From cultivating group mind to seamlessly linking scenes through edits, understanding the cadence of a long form improv show, and engaging in constructive feedback between your fellow students, this course is designed to equip you with the skills needed for success.

Our aim? To set you on a course towards a rewarding improv career, whether as a core member of your own team or as a regular performer on active Spitfire shows.

Play Your Truth

Sundays, July 7 - August 11 with a showcase on Thursday, August 22 at 9 PM

Play Your Truth is a master class for intermediate to experienced improvisers who wish to challenge themselves with exercises focused on vulnerability, honesty, presence, and discovery. There may be dramatic moments, as well as moments of deep emotional affect along the path to Truth in Comedy. The class will provide kind but honest critical feedback, and is designed for improvisers who desire such critique. We will use an experimental approach, with exercises designed to be challenging yet fun and revealing.

The class consists of six sessions, five of which are focused on advanced exploration of individual topics, culminating in a student showcase. The last class meeting will focus on preparation for the showcase.

Long Form Techniques

Saturdays, July 6 - August 10 with a showcase on August 15

The Long Form Techniques class will teach you the various styles, formats, and edits widely utilized in long form improv around the world. Students will learn how to create their own improv team using a mashup of their favorite techniques culminating in a showcase of their new team and format on the spitfire stage.

This class and it's techniques are applicable to both short form and long form game play. This class is intended for intermediate to experienced improvisers.

Sunday Drop-In

Drop in any time you’d like. This improv class is open to all levels and always focuses on new techniques, practices, and frameworks to make you a better improviser on—and off—stage. Join us once a week as Spitfire's friendly instructors take you through the exercises and games that we play on stage and learn how to handle any moment, on the spot. Class is a mix of students interested in getting on stage as well as folks who want to learn skills to help them be great humans.

Each class is different - we'll take you through time-honored exercises and classic improv games that are as fun to play as they are useful and over time, show you how to make awesome choices on the spot, get intellectually quicker, expand your sense of humor, and have each other's backs through comedy
